Simon was visiting this weekend. It was the first time he got to meet Cam. He’s been very curious about this baby. However, once he saw him, he wouldn’t hold him. I stopped by after work, the kids had been together for five or six hours. I said I wanted a picture of Simon holding Cam. My mom said he wouldn’t hold him, he was nervous. Emily said, “it’s fine.”
I disagree. It is not fine. Simon should hold the baby. So I took the baby and Simon came over to look at him. He’d been doing that a lot. He was clearly curious. I said, “do you want to hold him?” He shook his head and softly touched Cam’s hair. I said, “how much do you think he weighs?” “Emmy said he weighs 9 pounds.”
It’s true, she did say that.
I asked him if that was heavy or light. He didn’t know. I said, “don’t you want to know if he’s heavy or not?’
The smallest of nods. I said “I will sit right here and as soon as you are done you tell me and I’ll take him.”
Just like that, he sat down to hold his cousin. (Warning: Obsessive amount of photos coming at ya)
His first seconds of holding this baby. I love the look on Simon’s face. Nervous, excited, fascinated-all at once. And then everyone said “hold his head!”
My mom is showing him how to support the head. I wish this wasn’t blurry, this is a beautiful moment.
Now he’s got it. He’s just sitting there, holding him. By himself, with no help.
I love how Cam is looking right at him. And Simon seems to like it, too.
Someone else decided to sneak in for a quick kiss. Good thing I had my phone at the ready the whole time.
Grandma and all three of her grandchildren. She looks like she’s about to cry. She wasn’t, I don’t think.
Simon was just fascinated by him. He was touching him and learning him. Cam can’t take his eyes off his big cousin. And I love that you can tell my mom is smiling in the background.
This one is so great. Cam was *smiling* at Simon. That made Simon light up.
And, lastly, we have my favorite.
I love them staring so intently, gazing at one another, just learning each other. You could see the love growing between them. My two nephews. I asked Simon, “is he heavy?” “No,” he said, “he’s pretty small.”
Then, Simon looked up and said, “you can take him back now” and I did and that was that. Moment over. Five is such a nice age, isn’t it?
